Tidying your room? Going on a walk?
Podcasts break up the monotony of everyday tasks. I can’t help but pick up my headphones and delve into a conversation with my favourite Podcaster. Admittedly, despite being a Podcaster myself, I listen to the same podcasts all the time. So, I thought I’d put together a list of my go-to podcasts!
1. 'We Bought a House' with Claudia Sulewski and FINNEAS
This podcast was launched over a year ago and definitely gives me first lockdown vibes.
'We Bought a House' became my comfort blanket in the first Pandemic, during the days of making banana bread and doing 5k runs. The podcast, hosted by Claudia Sulewski, a lifestyle youtuber and her boyfriend Finneas, a music producer and music artist, covers hilarious accounts of the couple’s lives.
I love this podcast because of the authenticity of it. Despite, the couple having huge followings, their conversations make you feel like you’re actually sat in a room with your friends. Unfortunately, the pair decided to take a break from podcasting, announcing they would no longer continue weekly uploads. Since writing this, Claudia and Finneas have removed all of their episodes apart from the episode on how they met. I didn’t take it off this list because I may miss my comfort episodes, but it was a truly amazing podcast.
2. 'Talk Nasty to Me' with Nicole Rafiee (aka Nikki Nasty)
I binge-listened to this podcast. 'Talk Nasty to Me', hosted by Nicole Rafiee, a Youtuber and content creator, talks about literally everything and anything focusing on more off-the cuff conversations around a particular topic. What I love about this podcast, after following Nicole for some time, is how authentic she is by keeping her content very raw.
The conversations with Nicole are almost like the nights when you stay up late with your best friend and get into deep conversations. Often Podcasters can stay in a rut, but Nicole opens conversations about different themes that you wouldn’t have thought about before. What I also love about this podcast is how easy it is to listen to, requiring no concentration. I beg you to listen to this podcast, as Nicole’s personality is what makes it so great.
3. 'Northern Natter' with Katie Baggott and Katie Williams.
'Northern Natter' is for any of my fellow journalism students out there, or aspiring writers. I love this podcast as someone who is wanting to go into the media industry. Obviously, the title is a big give away. 'Northern Natter' primarily focuses on its northern audience, moving away from the stereotypical need to go to London in order to break into the industry.
This podcast offers lots of tips and tricks, including how to get a job with a journalism degree and for any journalism student the most controversial topic of all, is shorthand really worth it? In all seriousness, Katie and Katie do this podcast justice and without their brilliant hosting abilities the podcast wouldn’t be what it is. They have a plethora of amazing guests so it is definitely a podcast not to miss out on.
4. 'Views Our Own' with Sophie Kiderlin and Mischa Alexander.
There’s a theme here. I’m a big fan of listening to podcasts surrounding my degree and 'Views Our Own', hosted by Sophie Kiderlin and Mischa Alexander, hits that spot. The podcast discusses everything an aspiring journalist needs, especially when breaking into the industry.
This podcast also has an amazing set of guests who speak about their careers in the industry, including different aspects of journalism and important industry issues. I love it when I come out of a podcast and not only have I gained a better insight of the industry I am going into, but also a firm understanding of many topical issues. To my fellow aspiring journalists, please go and listen to this podcast.
So that’s my list of podcasts that you should definitely have a listen to. Podcasts are like the windows into the different conversations we all want to be part of and if you’re a podcast novice, now is the time to put your headphones on and jump into the conversation.
