Runway Idol returns for the final time this July

Megane Moki

We have come to that special time of the year again when one of the best and most awarded

fashion shows in the UK is taking place. Sheffield's very own Hillsborough Stadium is hosting Runway Idol again at the end of this summer, on Friday 15 th July.

This flamboyant event has been the epitome of entertainment for hundreds of local people since 2018, and after 5 years, this awesome event is, unfortunately, coming to an end. With sponsors from the bird group, Family Wealth, and Manhatta, this show usually sees local models and the hottest influencers in Sheffield right now, very big fashion brands such as The Couture Club, and in style. The show also support more local independent brands such as House of Rose Bespoke, and Reece Ford hire. This event promotes smaller businesses, but most importantly, this event uses all the takings they receive from bought tickets to donate to charities.

Since 2018, Runway Idol has raised an incredible £20,000, for charities such as Cancer Research UK, Dementia UK, Imogen’s Dream, The UK Sepsis Trust, Sheffield MIND and The Children’s Hospital Charity. This year, they are gifting donations to Retina UK, which is a national loss of sight charity that was founded in 1976, it is a charity that supports people affected by inherited progressive sight loss, and they a

lso fund research into the causes and treatments to find a cure. Only 1 in 2,000 people have this condition, which is 0.05% of the UK population, and due to the low percentage of citizens affected by this condition, it is considered a rare condition.

The event will be taking place at the Hillsborough Stadium, the famous football stadium, and home ground to the Sheffield Wednesday Football Club. There is a lot of history behind this stadium. Hillsborough is best known for the tragic disaster during the 1986 Liverpool and Nottingham Forest game, which resulted in 96 deaths due to poor stadium conditions, and inadequate safety regulations. Runway Idol hosting their event at this stadium is significant because it allows anyone attending, to pay respects to the victims and their families. It will also reinforce that true sense of unity and the importance of supporting and loving each other in difficult times, particularly as we have just experienced a lockdown with the widespread COVID-19 variant.

Hillsborough also offers fun and exciting experiences, with iconic architecture, to the atmosphere of the crowds. There will be free drinks available on arrival....I mean there is no better way to kick off an extravagant event like this.

This exclusive show will have celebrity guests and 300 local guests as the congregation, with

handpicked models who will walk the catwalk. There will be auditions for this line-up selection process taking place on Sunday 21 st May, if you are interested in participating in this all-round prestigious event as a runway model, please make sure to email in three recent photos of yourself – the email address is runwayidol@outlook.com. If I haven't given you enough reasons to attend, then I do not know what will, but I can assure you, if purchase your ticket today, I know you won't regret it.
